History of My Nation

History of the nation is a three day event of seminars and two half day workshop held by the Wikimedia Indonesia. Followed by participants from various universities in Jabodetabek, which will take place in August to welcome the 65th anniversary of Indonesia's Independence Day. Winners will be flown to visit Tropenmuseum, Netherlands.

Project Synopsis

History has an important role in tracing the long road to build democracy and social order. History is a tool for the community in order to avoid forgetting important events in the past. The historical record can provide important information about errors that happened in the past. In this case, the documentation archive is a collective memory of the nation, as illustrated by the history of the nation from time to time. Collective memory is also the identity and dignity of a nation. In collaboration with Wikimedia Netherlands and Tropenmuseum, academic awareness that based the obligation to save the file as evidence of accountability as well as the nation's cultural heritage, can avoid the loss of information on travel history of a nation and dignity as a civilized nation. Archive documentation form the Indonesian nation in the past that are owned by the historical centre in the Netherlands is an invaluable treasure that must be preserved. Through History of My Nation Program, in the future the program participants are expected to perform the restoration for documentation archive of Indonesian past, so that information about the nation's history is not forgotten It also can foster the awareness of young people-who are the main target-so that in addition they have the ability to do the restoration of Indonesia’s documentation archives which now in Dutch can also build patriotism and fostering a sense of solidarity. Conscious of this, establishing the History of My Nation, is to realize the responsibility to guarantee the safety of the Indonesia's nation archives.

Siska Doviana : is one of the founders of Wikimedia Indonesia, who responsible for direct supervisor of History of My Nation. As a communications specialist for the Environmental Services Program Jakarta (ESP)-USAID, Siska experienced in handling a variety of public events and media.

Christian Sugiono : has been named Ambassador of Free Your Knowledge by the Wikimedia Indonesia in 2010 because of his concern for knowledge and potential of the Internet in disseminating information. Christian actively promoting this effort through mass media. As one of the younger generation role models and talented actor Indonesia, Christian will use his potential to support the success of Wikimedia.

Lise Broer : has working to gain more diverse access to high resolution files from museums, libraries, and other archives globally. Most of that represents digital restoration of archival material. Lise have had contributed featured material at 5 of Wikipedia's 6 featured content types and have gotten 68 articles to Wikipedia's main page. Her restorations was selected third place overall for the 2008 Commons Picture of the Year and happen to have 131 featured pictures on the Turkish Wikipedia.

Leo Cahyadi : Leo Cahyadi is chairman of the board of trustees Wikimedia Indonesia. As a professional accountant, Leo will oversee the flow of project funds and their usage. Together with committee, Leo will take an active core in evaluating the training modules for participants of competitions/seminars.

Wikimedia Indonesia was established on September 5th, 2008, as an association that encourages growth, development and dissemination of knowledge in Bahasa Indonesia and other languages spoken in Indonesia for independent and free. Wikimedia Indonesia (its) founders are an active volunteer in Wikipedia Indonesia and also advocate the need of free knowledge to the public through media and various seminars.

Strategies to Extend Wider Community

In order for this event to be known and the participants felt proud to participate in the prestigious competition, then we will try to schedule the participants/organizers/judges to be present at the talk show on radio/TV. Also, efforts will be made to the existence of this competition socialization through social networking sites like fascebook, blog participants, the site of the Wikimedia Indonesia. Efforts to reach the mass media is by launching via press conference and sending press releases and broadcast the latest developments in media every three months. On the night of the award winners, the sponsors are welcome to introduce their product by displaying booth products, which will be attended by more than 200 invitations and media.

Previous Activities

DVD Wikimedia Indonesia

Even before Wikimedia Indonesia established, volunteers have been actively supporting the dissemination of Wikimedia's material. For example, through the issue of Chip Magazine. Wikimedia's DVD as inserts for special edition anniversary in August 2008.

Seminars and Workshops

Regularly active volunteers conduct seminars and workshops on INAICTA 2007 and 2008 at the invitation of Depkominfo. The members of Wikimedia Indonesia also fulfill an invitation to conduct a seminar in Padang, Sragen, Banda Aceh in the year 2009.

Free Your Knowledge 2010

Free Your Knowledge 2010 is a competition to write on Wikimedia Indonesia. Followed by 90 participants from 10 universities in Jakarta, the resilience of the participants will be tested for three months (April-June 2010). Winners will be flown to attend international conferences Wikimania 2010 in Gdansk, Poland. This writing competition was initiated by the Wikimedia Indonesia and is designed as an integrated program of training, endurance test, enrichment efforts in Indonesian language quality articles in the realm of the Internet, and celebration of the volunteer spirit of Free Your Knowledge. The competition, which lasted for six months was designed as a training session will spur novice writers and writing in collecting scientific data on various fields and their interest in the Indonesian language-with encyclopedic style.
